Additional FAQs pertaining to the SCC-Admin WLAN
|
· Should I install personal firewall software on my laptop before participating on the wireless LAN?
Yes, it is a very good idea to install personal firewall software on a laptop that is exposed to the Internet, along with up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software and the installation of current Microsoft patches. Though both networks do reside behind the Los Rios firewall, so are afforded some protection from Internet exploits and worms, there is no anti-virus or protection provided.
Though the SCC_Admin network is a more secure network and does offer more protection from network attacks than does SCC_Public, it is still recommended to install the above software on PCs connecting to this network

· I need to connect to the SCC_Admin wireless network but I don’t know that my wireless network card supports WPA-Enterprise. How can I tell?
Legacy client wireless cards may require a WPA upgrade. Many vendors provide WPA firmware updates for their wireless cards. A list of product vendors with products that are WPA WiFi certified is available at Wi-Fi Certified Products. If your card does not show on this list, contact your vendor for support. Before purchasing a new wireless card confirm that it is WPA-Enterprise (or WPA2-Enterprise) Wi-Fi CERTIFIED.
Typically
WPA is not automatically implemented in the default configuration of new
wireless client devices. They must be
configured when the products are installed.
