The wireless LAN (WLAN) at Sacramento City College provides service to various locations on campus (listed above).  This network provides wireless access to PCs and other devices that are wireless-enabled with WiFi compliant network cards.

There are two wireless networks available offering access to the following services (at no charge):

SCC-Public

The SCC-Public WLAN provides access to the Internet and web sites in the Los Rios network.  Access to internal Los Rios network resources such as file servers and printers is not allowed on this network.  This network requires no user authentication and provides limited network security or privacy.

What you need:

If you have successfully logged on to other wireless networks, your equipment should work on the SCC Public Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). SCC uses the WiFi standard (IEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11g), with up to 54 megabits.

How to connect to the SCC Public WLAN (scc_public):

For Windows XP computers

1. Click on the wireless icon on your desktop.

2. Choose the “scc_public” network

3. Connect to the internet – no password necessary!

For other operating systems

Simply use the same steps you’ve used with other wireless networks. Since these steps differ based on what type of computer you have, read your computer manual or call your hardware vendor if you need directions.  In all cases, no password will be necessary.

Who to call for help:

Every computer is different, so it is best to contact your laptop manufacturer with inquiries. For questions about the SCC network, stop by the campus computer labs, cafeteria, or Student Center for a fact sheet.  Or, you can click on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) link below.

Public WLAN FAQs

Don’t forget to be a responsible user!

The Los Rios policies and procedures for general network access also apply to the wireless network. Keep your virus software up to date and remember that the network is not secure unless you are connecting to a secure site.

SCC-Admin

The SCC-Admin WLAN provides access to the Internet and to Los Rios internal network resources, e.g., file servers, printers, Outlook e-mail, etc.  This network requires user authentication and provides strong network security and privacy.  User authentication to this network will require a Los Rios account (with UserID and Password), specific PC settings (described below) and a WPA-Enterprise compliant network card.

Connecting and authenticating to the SCC-Admin wireless network.

Access to the SCC-Admin WLAN is available only to Los Rios employees and by request only.  Please call the Computer Services Help Desk at (916) 558-2222 or email scchelpline@scc.losrios.edu.

Please see the WPA Admin WLAN FAQs before trying to connect to the SCC-Admin WLAN
